Storyboard Your 2026: Goals and Intuition

Hello fellow writers and a rather belated Happy New Year to you.

Should you be thinking about you year ahead, here’s an extract from a live workshop I delivered a couple of weeks ago, which got some lovely reviews. It took a storyboarding technique from scriptwriting, and applied it to how we might manage our attention spans over the year ahead.

I’ve not added it to the Complete Freelance Writing Course as is usual with posts here, as I may make a separate online course full version of it. Will let you know of course, if that is the case.

Your Writing Muscles

Do you have plans to work on those writing muscles this year?

Around 300 of us have been writing together online in the January Writing Hours with the amazing Kim Moore and Clare Shaw. They hold hourly writing workouts using poetry prompts each day in January, GMT 10.00am, but I think non-poets too could get inspiration and usefulness here. Recommended as a great fit alongside the Good Writing part of the Complete Freelance Writing Course.

As regards the Profitable Writing and Versatile Writing parts of the course, I reckon every writer could benefit from following Jane Friedman, US based publishing expert whose work oozes intergrity and tech and market savvy Joanna Penn, who is UK based and a prolific author.

I’m also a fan of London Writers Salon, if you find it especially challenging to work those writing muscles solo. They have different levels of membership, and a variety of options for engagement, and it’s a most welcoming community. Please don’t be put off by the ‘London’ implied location: these are most definitely global networks.

I wish you all the best for the year ahead, and that those word gods are smiling benignly in your direction, wherever you may be. As ever, always most receptive to hearing from you.
