Writing is not obviously a healthy occupation, bum glue being a requirement of writing anything significant. A recent hand problem here, ulnar or cubital tunnel syndrome, reminded me how important it is to look after those bits of us that serve our creative drive. Over the next few months, I’m going to experiment with technology that helps take the writing strain off our bodies, and will report back.
I was lucky enough to see a specialist hand physiotherapist for my problem, who lives locally. Diagnosis can take quite a while as ulnar tunnel syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome both affect hand and wrist. She prescribed gentle stretches – the ‘flossing’ variety described in You Tube videos – kinesiology tape and paraffin wax hand treatments occasionally.
It all worked – and if you’re experiencing any problems, do hope you manage to get yourself sorted.
